Finally, my dream trip to a Club Med resort

After years of dreaming of going to Club Med, it finally happened!  Club Med Ixtapa Pacific is voted one of the best family resorts in North America on Trip Advisor.  Even going solo didn't mean that I wasn't going to enjoy everything the village has to offer.

It was a bit more than I was hoping to pay, but it was worth it for all the activities in the village and meeting the GOs and going out every night in a safe place in a foreign country.

When I booked my trip, I downloaded the Club Med app and saw that there were so many things I could try.  From archery to sailing lessons, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, flying trapeze, zumba, beach volleyball, salsa dancing lessons, or just go to the beach and nap in a hammock.

The first day I got there, I did 5 swings on the trapeze and was caught twice on the other side!  However, the next day I was so sore that I had to rest 1 day, but it was worth it.  I ended up doing circus 4 times in 6 days; this was my favourite part of the trip.

I also took my first archery lesson and won the amateur tournament with 2 other newbies!  I did archery 4 days out of 6, and still don't know how to hit the bullseye except with luck :)

I was awarded with a medal at the end of the week even.  They give out sports awards to people who participate in the sports tournaments throughout the week.  You think you're just out enjoying yourself, learning and playing for fun and you get a medal for it!

My second day included exploring the neighbouring fishing village of Zihuatanejo.  This is one of the safest zones in Mexico.  Very friendly people, and in low season, people are interested in talking with you and selling you their wares, but not to the point of aggressiveness, they just need to earn an income.

On my 3rd day, I explored the tourist area of Ixtapa and went parasailing.

It was my first time and it was just like swinging in the sky.

Each night there\s a different show or activity/theme.  There was a Mexican Fun Fare night with games where you earn money to bid on auction prizes.  There were kid games like Spanish bingo and also adult games like poker and blackjack.  I "won" about 4000 Mexican pesos but I didn't have enough to bid for a night in the best suite in the resort.  Awww :(

Diner en blanc has made it to Mexico!  The Club Med app tells you the dress code for the days you're there if you want to "fit in" but of course, you're welcome to enjoy everything during your stay regardless!

There are 2 restaurants and there are always drinks.  So much variety to choose from and even with my food allergies, there was no shortage of food, healthy or otherwise.  There's still hamburgers and fries, tacos, and dessert but also salad, fruit, sushi and even caviar!

There's always some sort of live entertainment, and of course Mariachi!
Since I don't know how to swim, I stuck with land sports, but did try sailing twice.  You can go for a sail or they can teach you how to sail and you can go by yourself!  They also have kayaking and stand up paddle boarding.  So many activities to keep you busy.

Every day, there are fitness classes as well as salsa dancing lessons.  I always thought all latinos knew how to dance, but it's not true.  I was an advanced dancer in these classes and it was good to try to be the lead, or male dancer and upgrade my skills to the other side of the dancing couple.

Another quick day trip was to Isla Ixtapa, which is really close by and has another 3 beaches to explore.

Snorkelling is the main activity at Coral Beach, but the fish even come up to to shore!

The sunsets are stunning. It makes eating dinner on the patio so enjoyable.

All in all, I had a great time at Club Med Pacific Ixtapa.  I'll be back to Club Med another day, hopefully Turks and Caicos.
